Eochair was my first two-year-old runner in Europe. She contested the first two-year-old race of the season at the Curragh on Sunday 30 March. She finished last of eight, 21 lengths behind the winner, but it's so hard to tell much from a first race. She is a daughter of one of my favourite stallions, Key Of Luck, out of the Aga Khan bred mare Karaliyfa. There is a photo of her on the Goffs website. Her name is Gaelic for Key by the way. She was bred by Gerry Flannery Developments in Ireland. She is owned by the Eochair Syndicate and trained by Ms Joanna Morgan, who bought her at the Goffs Sales.
Cinnamon Hill broke her maiden at Lingfield over the all weather track on Friday in only her fourth race. The four-year-old Compton Place filly contested three 7f events as a three-year-old and benefited from the drop in trip to 6f. The Racing Post comments that she is a keen sort, but despite being a little green she found plenty when asked in the straight off and held off the 77-race veteran Linda Green. She is owned by Mrs C J Hue Williams and J C Nowell Smith. Mrs C J Williams also bred the filly. She is trained by Eve Johnston Houghton, who will have to teach her to keep her cool!
Also Outsmoken returned to training recently. The six-year-old gelding had been out of training since February 07, but he was a decent allowance runner and I am pleasantly surprised to see him back on the work tabs at Hawthorne Race Course, Illinois, USA. I hope he will be able to get back to form.
